Luis Pato Maria Gomes 2009 - Beiras, Portugal

Luis Pato, a highly respected yet enigmatic and unpredictable winemaker, creates austere wines of incredible restraint, character and integrity.  These wines are built from quality, master-grown vines selected to match the vineyards in which they are planted.  This 2009 Maria Gomes is no exception; its nose is pleasing and fragrant with honeysuckle, citrus & vanilla bean, but is anchored to a waxy, melted candle essence that's subtle and strangely enjoyable. In the mouth, the juice is silky, with weight & viscosity. The palate is immediately greeted with lemon/lime citrus notes, crisp, unripe white peach; all of which condenses to a elegant, austere salinity that brings you right to ocean front. Enjoy with shellfish! Stellar wine with enough restraint to show only solid character.
